Continuous Professional Development

Our Region, along with AIIC's other Regions and Bodies, organizes lifelong learning seminars for our members. Many of these are generally open for anyone wishing to attend.

Interpreters are continuously engaged in further training throughout their professional careers. Learning new languages, improving both language and digital skills, broadening their general and specialized knowledge, offers personal satisfaction, and ensures that they become better professionals, while opening up new horizons and employment opportunities.

Our Region, along with AIIC's other Regions and Bodies, organizes lifelong-learning seminars for its members. Many of these are generally open (free of charge or for a token fee) to anyone wishing to attend. Certificates of attendance are issued upon completion.

By way of example, AIIC's Greece and Cyprus Region organized a seminar on Remote Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI) in Athens, in the beginning of 2019, long before the need for RSI arose due to the Covid-19 related constraints.

Additionally, in December 2019, the Vega network held a meeting for new colleagues on best practices and professional ethics. This was an excellent opportunity to welcome newcomers, alongside student interpreters in order to share with them our passion for our work, how to properly conduct it, while also discussing issues of concern to them.

More recently, in April 2022, we held our first in-person event post pandemic on RSI. Our colleague Mary Fons gave us a curated overview of both technical and practical aspects. Mary creatively brought home the many ways in which we can enhance our experience when interpreting from a distance and which lessons learnt in these two years of RSI should inform our work in all settings.
